Liven up your next football party by organizing Super Bowl Squares, a game of chance that everyone can play.
Preparing The Super Bowl Grid
To play Super Bowl Squares, you need 100 squares (ten by ten grid) on a piece of paper. Download one at the link below or you can make your own. Each square should be large enough to allow your guests to write in their names.
Charge a certain amount for each square ($1.00 is very common; $100 pot value) and allow your guests to randomly write their name in the number of boxes purchased (ex. $5.00 gets them 5 squares).
Once the Super Bowl grid is completely filled in with guest names, put the name of one football team (we'll call them Team 1) across the top of the grid and the opposing team name (Team 2) down the left side.
Now it's time to choose numbers for the Super Bowl Squares. Using the ace through ten from a deck of cards (the ten will be the zero), have somebody randomly draw cards and place the number at the top of a column in the Super Bowl grid. Shuffle the cards and do the same thing down the side of the grid.
Now at the top of each of the 10 columns there should be a number written in (zero through 9) and also at the beginning of each row.
Who Wins The Pot
The most common way to determine the winner is to use the final score and the "last digit method." Let's use an example.
Team 1 score: 21
Team 2 score: 14
The last digit for Team 1 (across the top of the grid) is "1."
The last digit for Team 2 (down the side of the grid) is "4."
Find the place on the Super Bowl Squares grid where the 1 intersects with the 4. The person whose name is in that box wins the pot.
The nice thing about playing Super Bowl Squares is that you can alter it every time you play. You may want to charge $10.00 per square, for example or you may want to pay out portions of the pot after each quarter.
It's also easy to organize, doesn't cost much and gets people excited about watching the game.
