NFL Draft Spotlight by Team - #21 Pick by the Cincinnati Bengals

#21 - Cincinnati Bengals - Taylor Mays - USC

The Bengals could use a WR, but they'll have to wait for a round to draft their #2 receiver. No WR is rated high enough to draft here that isn't already selected. If Chase Coffman can come back and make an impact, he can fill in some of those catches that the Bengals need.

The Bengals need another safety, and Taylor Mays will be there to draft. He needs to improve in pass coverage, but if he can't, he can be the big-hitting, run-stopping SS, like Roy Williams. He's big enough to be a LB, but he's too fast to play there. With Mike Zimmer as his defensive coordinator, that team can help him improve into an elite safety. In the wrong system, Mays could be a bust, but if you put him with a good coach and defense, he can be a great player. The Bengals have enough good players on defense to allow Mays to focus on his talents and work on his flaws. If Rey Maualuga can come back strong after rehab, this could be the best defense in the AFC North. Domata Peko also needs to come back 100% too because he was injured at the end of 2009. He played in the wild card playoff game, but he clearly wasn't 100%. If the Bengals can draft someone that will make an impact in 2010, the team should be able to win the division again. Expect Carson to beg for a WR to be drafted in the 1st or 2nd round because Laveranues Coles was released in March.
